Nissan Leaf Recall 24V071: Rearview camera image can distort or fail, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 24V071, reported February 2, 2024, 57,914 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The rearview camera harness on certain Nissan Leaf vehicles can be damaged, which can cause the rear camera display to distort or go blank. A rearview camera that does not properly show what is behind the vehicle reduces the driver's rear view and increases the risk of a crash, and these vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111 for rear visibility.

If you own an affected 2018 through 2022 Nissan Leaf, an authorized Nissan dealer will inspect the rearview camera and its harness for damage. Damaged parts will be replaced. If no damage is found, the dealer will apply protective tape and reroute the camera harness. The repair is free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 9, 2024.

You can check whether your vehicle has any open recalls by entering your VIN on the NHTSA website or at a Nissan dealer. For questions, contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 and refer to Nissan recall number R23D7.
