Mazda CX-90 Recall 24V022: Steering Assist May Suddenly Cut Out, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 24V022, reported January 18, 2024, 43,454 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A manufacturing issue with the worm gear in the steering system can cause a sudden loss of power steering assist while driving. Without that assistance, steering becomes much harder, which increases the risk of a crash.

The remedy is free at an authorized dealer: the technician will replace the spring that engages the worm gear and reapply grease to the gear teeth. Owner notification letters were mailed March 6, 2024. If you have questions, you can contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 6.

If you own a 2024 Mazda CX-90, check your VIN for open recalls on NHTSA's website or with a Mazda dealer, and schedule the repair as soon as possible.
