Gillig LOW Floor Recall 23V809: Low Lubricant in Rear Axle Hubs Can Cause Axle Failure

NHTSA campaign 23V809, reported December 4, 2023, 34 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2023 Gillig Low Floor buses have too little lubricant in the rear axle hubs. Over time this can lead to failure of the rear drive axles.

If a rear drive axle fails, the vehicle can lose control, which increases the risk of a crash and injury to the driver, passengers, and others on the road.

Gillig will inspect the rear axle hub lubricant levels and add lubricant and gear oil where needed, at no cost to the owner. Owners can contact Gillig customer service at 1-510-264-5073 or 1-800-735-1500, and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
