Mercedes-Benz GLS 580 4MATIC Recall 23V733: Sunroof May Close Unexpectedly, Risking Injury

NHTSA campaign 23V733, reported November 1, 2023, 8 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2020 GLS 580 vehicles have a software error that can cause the sunroof to close unexpectedly when "car wash mode" is activated. The sunroof therefore does not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118 for power-operated window systems.

An unexpectedly closing sunroof can increase the risk of injury. Owners should avoid activating car wash mode until the vehicle has been repaired.

The remedy is free: an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer will update the sunroof control unit software at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 15, 2023. You can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 (recall number 2023110007), and you can check your VIN for any open recalls.
