Kenworth T280 Recall 23V661: Delayed Trailer Brake Release Can Destabilize Trailer

NHTSA campaign 23V661, reported September 29, 2023, 254 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some heavy trucks may have a delay in the timing of the trailer brake release, which means the trailer brakes may not release at the correct time. This does not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

A delay in the trailer brake release can create instability in the trailer and increase the risk of a crash. Owners of affected trucks should watch for any signs of trailer instability and contact an authorized dealer as soon as possible.

Dealers will replace the fittings and hoses in the affected valves free of charge. Owner letters were mailed January 15, 2024. You can contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5888 or Peterbilt customer service at 1-940-591-4220, referencing PACCAR recall numbers 23KWJ or 23PBJ. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
