Mazda CX-90 Recall 23V553: Pedestrian warning sound may point the wrong way

NHTSA campaign 23V553, reported August 4, 2023, 17,600 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2024 vehicles have software missing from the amplifier for the Approaching Vehicle Audible System, which produces the external sound that warns pedestrians of an approaching vehicle. Because the sounds may be inaccurate, they can confuse pedestrians about which direction a vehicle is coming from. The vehicles also do not meet the minimum sound requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 141 for hybrid and electric vehicles.

Inaccurate warning sounds increase the risk of a crash or injury to pedestrians. If you own a 2024 model year vehicle, check whether it is included in this recall by entering your VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup site. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 18, 2023.

The repair is free. Authorized dealers will update the AVAS amplifier software at no charge. You can also contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 6, and reference recall number 6123H.
