- Problem
- BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2023 740i, 760i xDrive and i7 xDrive60 vehicles equipped with an Interaction Bar. The Interaction Bar, located on the dashboard, may not activate the windshield defrosting/defogging system and/or the hazard warning lights. In addition, those control buttons may not illuminate when pressed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 103, "Windshield Defrosting and Defogging Systems", and 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Risk
- The inability to operate the defrost or hazard warning lights can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
- Remedy
- Dealers will replace the Interaction Bar, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 6, 2023. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

What this recall means for you
The Interaction Bar on the dashboard of certain 2023 BMW 740i, 760i xDrive and i7 xDrive60 vehicles may not activate the windshield defrost/defog system or the hazard warning lights when pressed. The control buttons may also fail to light up when pressed. The vehicles therefore do not meet federal safety standards for windshield defrosting and for lamps.
Because the defrost and hazard lights may not work, the risk of a crash or injury is increased. A windshield that cannot be cleared of fog or frost reduces visibility, and hazard lights that do not activate make your vehicle harder for other drivers to see when stopped or in trouble.
BMW will replace the Interaction Bar at an authorized dealer free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 6, 2023. To check whether your vehicle is affected, contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or check your VIN for open recalls.
