Jeep Cherokee Recall 23V338: Electrical short can cause fire in power liftgate

NHTSA campaign 23V338, reported May 11, 2023, 132,099 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A short circuit in the power liftgate module can cause a vehicle fire, and the fire can start whether the ignition is on or off. A fire while parked or driving raises the risk of injury.

Until the repair is done, park your vehicle outside and away from buildings or other structures. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module, add a water shield, inspect for corrosion, and replace the module and electrical connectors if necessary. The repair is free. This remedy supersedes earlier recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826, and vehicles already repaired under those recalls still need this new remedy. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024.
