Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Recall 23V330: School Bus Rear Joint May Be Too Weak in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 23V330, reported May 8, 2023, 146 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2024 Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses may have a rear exterior body joint that was manufactured incorrectly, leaving it with insufficient strength. The buses therefore do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 221, which governs school bus body joint strength.

A school bus whose joints are not strong enough may not adequately protect passengers in a crash, which increases the risk of injury. Owners should not wait to have this addressed.

Dealers will add additional fasteners to secure the joints, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 29, 2023. You can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-574-0712 (recall number FL972), and you can check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
