Jeep Cherokee Recall 23V302: Transmission Can Lose Drive Power or Park, Risking Crashes

NHTSA campaign 23V302, reported April 27, 2023, 25,980 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles may have a power transfer unit (PTU) that can become damaged. When this happens, it can disengage the transmission and differential, causing a loss of drive power or a loss of the park function.

A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. A loss of park function can allow the vehicle to roll away unintentionally, which can increase the risk of a crash or injury. This recall expands an earlier recall, 20V-343.

The repair is free. Dealers will perform a software update at no cost to the owner. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2023. You can contact FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403, and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
