- BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Problem
- Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2023 Model X vehicles equipped with a full self-driving computer 4.0 and running software release version 2023.2.200. Weak camera signal strength may prevent the rearview image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
- Risk
- A rearview image that does not display while in reverse decreases the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
- Remedy
- Tesla has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update, free of charge. All affected vehicles have been remedied. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
What this recall means for you
Some 2023 Model X vehicles with full self-driving computer 4.0 running software version 2023.2.200 may have weak camera signal strength. This can stop the rearview image from appearing on the screen when the vehicle is in reverse, which reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle and does not meet federal rear visibility requirements.
Without a working rearview image, the driver has less visibility while backing up, which raises the risk of striking a person, an object, or another vehicle and causing injury or a crash.
Tesla has released an over-the-air software update that fixes the problem at no cost, and all affected vehicles have been remedied. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 and can check their VIN for any open recalls.
