Honda CR-V Recall 23V228: Road Salt Can Corrode CR-V Frame, Risking Loss of Control

NHTSA campaign 23V228, reported March 30, 2023, 616,128 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2007 through 2011 Honda CR-V vehicles sold or registered in many northeastern, Midwestern, and mid-Atlantic states may have a frame that corrodes from an accumulation of road salt. Over time, this corrosion can weaken the frame to the point where the rear trailing arm may detach.

A detached rear trailing arm can cause a loss of vehicle control, which increases the risk of a crash. If you own an affected vehicle, contact an authorized Honda dealer or Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 and reference recall UE3. Dealers will inspect the vehicle and install a support brace or repair the rear frame as needed, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any corrosion damage, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owner notification letters were mailed May 22, 2023. You can also check your VIN for open recalls.
