- Component
- CHILD SEAT:VEHICLE TETHER ANCHOR
- Problem
- Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2023 Edge and Lincoln Nautilus vehicles. The child seat tether wire welds on the second-row left-side seat back frame may be insufficient, which can reduce the seat's ability to properly restrain a child during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 225, "Child Restraint Anchorage Systems."
- Risk
- A child that is not properly restrained during a crash can have an increased risk of injury.
- Remedy
- Dealers will replace the left-side second-row seat back frame, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2023. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 23C09.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
What this recall means for you
Some 2023 vehicles have weak tether wire welds on the left-side second-row seat back frame. This can reduce the seat's ability to properly restrain a child seat during a crash, and the vehicles do not meet the federal child restraint anchorage standard (FMVSS 225).
A child who is not properly restrained in a crash has a higher risk of injury. If your vehicle is affected, the repair is free: an authorized dealer will replace the left-side second-row seat back frame at no cost to you. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2023. You can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 23C09.
Even if you have not received a letter, check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls on the NHTSA website or with a dealer, and schedule the repair as soon as possible if your vehicle is included.
