What this recall means for you
Certain 2022-2024 International HV and MV trucks and 2022-2023 IC Bus TC commercial buses may have an engine control software problem. When the parking brake is set, the automatic transmission is still in drive or reverse, and the stationary power take-off (PTO) switch is engaged, the engine may rev enough to overcome the parking brake and let the vehicle move unexpectedly.
Unexpected vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury. If you own or operate one of these vehicles, avoid using the stationary PTO while the transmission is in gear, and always confirm the transmission is in neutral or park before engaging the parking brake and leaving the vehicle.
The remedy is a free software update to the Cummins engine control module (ECM), performed by an authorized dealer at no cost to you. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 24, 2023. For questions, contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 and reference recall number 23504. This recall expands on earlier NHTSA recall 20V-810. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
