Volvo XC60 Recall 23V001: Steering Can Lock Up, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 23V001, reported January 5, 2023, 74 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019-2021 Volvo V60CC, XC60, and XC90 vehicles may have been built with double screws stacked on top of each other during steering gear assembly. A screw can fall into the gearbox housing, where it can cause the steering wheel to lock up.

A locked steering wheel makes it harder or impossible to control the vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and have their vehicle checked.

The repair is free: authorized Volvo dealers will replace the steering gear at no charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 1, 2023. You can also contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552 (recall number R10213), and check your VIN for open recalls.
