Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 Recall 22V733: 12V battery may not be secured, disabling crash safety features

NHTSA campaign 22V733, reported September 30, 2022, 19,968 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The 12-volt battery in the trunk may not be properly secured. In a crash, the battery can shift and cause an electrical connection failure, which can disable safety features including the emergency call (eCall) system, electric seat adjustment, hazard warning lights, and automatic door locks.

Because these features may not work during a crash, the risk of injury is increased. Affected vehicles include certain 2019 through 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG CLS53, AMG E53, and CLS 450 models, as well as 2020 versions of these models. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included.

Mercedes-Benz dealers will secure the 12-volt battery free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 20, 2023. You can also contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, referencing recall number 2022100009.
