Ford F-150 Recall 22V623: Loose Underbody Shield Can Damage Driveshaft, Risking Crash

NHTSA campaign 22V623, reported August 12, 2022, 58,203 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Underbody heat and noise insulators can loosen and rub against the aluminum driveshaft. Over time this contact can damage the driveshaft and cause it to fracture.

A broken driveshaft can cause a sudden loss of drive power or, if it drops to the ground, a loss of vehicle control. Unintended movement while parked is also possible if the parking brake is not engaged. Any of these situations increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dealers will inspect and repair the driveshaft as needed and properly reattach the underbody insulators. Owner notification letters were mailed September 1, 2022. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall 22S53), and you should check your VIN for open recalls.
