Volvo XC90 Recall 21V716: Brake Assist and ABS May Fail, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 21V716, reported September 15, 2021, 9 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A welding defect in the brake system's integrated hydraulic unit means the rotor and shaft can separate. When that happens, braking assistance can be reduced and the Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) can be lost.

Losing ABS and ESC, along with reduced braking assistance, increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this risk while the recall remains open.

Dealers will replace the hydraulic unit free of charge. Owners who received notification letters mailed October 22, 2021 can contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-888-458-1552 (recall R10120). You can also check your VIN for open recalls.
