What this recall means for you
The trunk latch on these vehicles may become damaged, which can prevent the trunk from being opened from the inside. This means the vehicle does not meet federal Internal Trunk Release safety requirements.
If someone is inside the trunk and cannot get out, they may become trapped, which increases the risk of injury. Owners should take this seriously, especially if children or pets ride in or may climb into the trunk.
The repair is free. Dealers will replace the trunk latch base at no cost. Owners were notified by letter starting December 4, 2021, and can call Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 with questions. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
