Chevrolet Bolt EV Recall 21V560: Battery May Catch Fire When Charged Near Full

NHTSA campaign 21V560, reported July 23, 2021, 57,414 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The high-voltage traction battery in these vehicles can catch fire when charged to full or nearly full capacity. A battery fire increases the risk of injury. This recall covers vehicles previously recalled under NHTSA recall 20V-701 and remains open until the defective battery modules are replaced.

While you wait for the repair, GM advises owners to limit charging. On 2017 and 2018 models, turn on the Hill Top Reserve feature; on 2019 models, activate Target Charge Level. Either setting limits the charge to 90%. Charge the vehicle more often, avoid draining the battery to 70 miles of range remaining, park outside after charging, and do not charge the vehicle indoors overnight.

GM will replace the defective battery modules free of charge at an authorized dealer. Owners can call the Bolt EV Concierge Team at 1-833-382-4389, and should check their VIN for open recalls. GM's recall number is N212343880.
