Altec Aerial Device Recall 21V409: Boom Can Move Unexpectedly, Raising Injury Risk

NHTSA campaign 21V409, reported June 1, 2021, 1,977 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain aerial device units have lower and upper boom raise spools that can shift after the joystick or control interlock is released. The boom can then move unintentionally, which increases the risk of injury to operators and people nearby.

The manufacturer will install a jumper hose and check valve in the boomtip tank lines and replace the overcenter blocking cartridge with an internally referenced drain path. The repair is free of charge. Owners can contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 and reference recall number CSN 823. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls, and have the repair done at an authorized dealer.
