Chevrolet 5500HD Recall 21V194: Loose Rear Axle Bolts Can Cause Loss of Power

NHTSA campaign 21V194, reported March 19, 2021, 258 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Rear axle U-bolt nuts on certain trucks may not have been properly tightened, and they can loosen over time. This can cause the rear axle to shift out of alignment, which may lead to the driveshaft (propeller shaft) separating from the vehicle.

If the driveshaft separates, the rear wheels can lose power and the vehicle may stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Owners of affected vehicles should take this recall seriously.

The repair is free at an authorized dealer. Dealers will inspect the rear axle U-bolt nuts and replace and tighten them as needed. Owners can contact Isuzu customer service at 1-866-441-9638 (Isuzu recall number V2103), and should check their VIN for open recalls.
