What this recall means for you
The driver's side front airbag inflator in these vehicles can rupture. Over time, long exposure to high humidity, high heat, and repeated temperature swings can degrade the propellant that inflates the airbag, which may cause the inflator to explode.
An inflator explosion can send sharp metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants, which may cause serious injury or death.
The repair is free. Ford will replace the driver's side airbag inflator or module with an alternate part at an authorized dealer. Owners who have not received a notice can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 (Ford recall 21S12), and you can check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
