International MV Recall 20V810: Engine can overpower parking brake, risking unexpected movement

NHTSA campaign 20V810, reported December 23, 2020, 17,213 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain International DuraStar and WorkStar trucks, the engine control software may allow the engine to rev while the parking brake is applied, if the automatic transmission is in drive or reverse and the stationary PTO switch is engaged. The engine can then overcome the parking brake's ability to hold the vehicle in place.

Unexpected vehicle movement can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

The repair is free. Dealers will update the parameters in the Cummins engine control module for feature codes 12VXT or 12VXU to enable the PTO neutral interlock. Owners can contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 and reference recall number 20510. Check your VIN for open recalls and contact an authorized dealer to schedule the fix.
