Kenworth T680 Recall 20V593: Trucks May Take Longer to Release Brakes, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 20V593, reported September 28, 2020, 1,416 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016-2021 Kenworth T680 trucks with a 2.1m cab and WABCO 6S/6M antilock brake system with drum brakes were built with a standard rear-brake ABS modulator valve instead of a quick release valve. This means the service brakes may take longer than intended to release, and the trucks do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

The longer release timing can lengthen stopping distance, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and arrange the repair promptly.

PACCAR will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the standard rear-brake ABS modulator valve with a quick release valve at no cost to you. The recall began November 30, 2020. You can contact PACCAR customer service at 1-425-828-5888 (recall number 20KWD), and you can check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
