Land Rover Range Rover Sport Recall 20V585: Low tire pressure warning may not light, risking tread separation

NHTSA campaign 20V585, reported September 24, 2020, 11,159 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain vehicles with 20-, 21-, or 22-inch wheels have the tire pressure monitoring system's recommended pressure set incorrectly in the instrument cluster. As a result, the TPMS warning light will not illuminate when a tire's pressure falls 25% below the cold inflation pressure listed on the tire placard. The vehicles also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 138 for tire pressure monitoring systems.

Because the warning does not appear, drivers may keep driving with significantly under-inflated tires without realizing it. This can lead to tire tread separation, which increases the risk of a crash.

Land Rover will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will update the instrument cluster software at no cost. The recall began November 2, 2020. Owners can contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-369-1000 (Land Rover recall number N494), and can check their VIN for open recalls in the meantime.
