Ford Expedition Recall 20V574: Seat Belt Sensor May Misread Child as Adult

NHTSA campaign 20V574, reported September 23, 2020, 123 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A seat belt tension sensor in certain vehicles may incorrectly classify a child passenger as an adult. This can cause the passenger airbag to stay enabled when it should be turned off.

In a crash, the passenger airbag could deploy against a child who should have been protected by it being disabled, increasing the risk of injury to that child.

The repair is free. Ford will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the seat belt buckle at no charge. You can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall 20S54. You can also check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website.
