Gillig LOW Floor Recall 20V179: Wrong circuit breakers can overheat wiring and cause a fire

NHTSA campaign 20V179, reported March 25, 2020, 8,224 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain Gillig Low Floor buses, the circuit breaker ratings on the DEF line heater circuit and the aftertreatment-ignition circuit may be higher than the rating of the wire and connector in those circuits. A breaker that is rated too high may not trip when it should during a fault.

If an electrical short occurs in either of these circuits, the wiring and connectors may overheat before the breaker interrupts the current, which increases the risk of a fire.

Gillig will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the circuit breakers free of charge. Owners can contact Gillig customer service at 1-510-264-5073 or 1-800-735-1500. You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
