RAM Promaster Recall 20V036: Shifter Cable Can Disconnect, Causing Unintended Movement

NHTSA campaign 20V036, reported January 23, 2020, 222,207 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A shifter cable in certain ProMaster vans with 3.6L engines may separate from the transmission. When this happens, the vehicle may not shift into the gear the driver selected, and the gear lever may not match the transmission's actual gear.

Because the driver may not know which gear the vehicle is really in, unintended vehicle movement can occur, which raises the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the transmission shift cable at no charge. Owners will be notified by mail. You can also contact Ram Trucks at 1-866-726-4636 and check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
