What this recall means for you
On certain International trucks, if the parking brake is set and the automatic transmission is in Drive or Reverse, engaging the stationary PTO switch can cause engine RPM to ramp up. That increased engine speed may overcome the parking brake's ability to hold the vehicle.
Unintended vehicle movement increases the risk of a crash. Do not engage the stationary PTO switch while the vehicle is in Drive or Reverse with the parking brake applied, and keep the vehicle secured while the PTO is in use.
The repair is free. Dealers will update the Engine Control Module to enable the PTO neutral interlock. Navistar will notify owners, or you can contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 (recall number 19518). Check your VIN for open recalls and contact an authorized dealer to schedule the free fix.
