RAM 1500 Recall 19V812: Steering assist can cut out intermittently, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 19V812, reported November 14, 2019, 193 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2019 Ram 1500 trucks may have been built with a contaminated electric power steering (EPS) gear. The contamination may cause a short circuit, which can lead to an intermittent loss of power steering assist.

When power steering assist drops out, steering effort can become inconsistent, especially during lower-speed maneuvers such as parking or tight turns. This increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the EPS gear assembly free of charge, and Chrysler will notify affected owners. To find out if your truck is included, check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA or manufacturer website, or contact FCA US customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall VB8).
