Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 Recall 19V648: Missing third-row headrest instructions raise crash injury risk

NHTSA campaign 19V648, reported September 9, 2019, 1,478 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 4MATIC and GLE 450 4MATIC vehicles were built with owner's manuals that do not explain how to adjust the head restraints of the third-row seats. Because of this omission, the vehicles do not fully comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 202a, which governs head restraints. Improperly adjusted head restraints increase the risk of injury to third-row passengers in a crash.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify affected owners. Dealers will provide a free supplementary owner's manual booklet containing the necessary head restraint adjustment information. The recall began November 22, 2019. Owners can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, referencing recall number 2019090005.

If you own a 2020 GLE 350 or GLE 450, check your VIN for open recalls and contact an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer to receive the free supplementary manual and review how to properly adjust your third-row head restraints.
