Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Recall 19V549: Roof emergency hatch handle may break, blocking exit

NHTSA campaign 19V549, reported July 24, 2019, 11 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The external handle on the roof emergency escape hatch may break unexpectedly during normal use. This affects buses equipped with Safe Fleet Roof Escape hatches. The defect comes from a manufacturing problem.

If the handle breaks, the hatch may not be easy to open from outside the bus during an emergency. That could delay escape or rescue for passengers and increase the risk of injury.

The repair is free. Daimler Trucks North America will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will install a new handle at no cost. Contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 and reference recall FL-819. You can also check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
