Altec Aerial Device Recall 19V483: Air Brake Pressure Can Be Lost, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 19V483, reported June 21, 2019, 957 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain aerial device and utility trucks may be missing pressure protection valves in their accessory air systems, and the air-cushioned pintle hook may be connected to the wrong air lines. Because accessory lines may not prevent loss of service brake pressure when there is a failure or leak in the accessory air system, the vehicle may not meet federal air brake requirements (FMVSS 121).

Loss of service brake pressure can increase the risk of a crash.

Altec will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the pressure protection installation and repair any unit that does not pass inspection, free of charge. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 (Altec recall number CSN 724). You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
