Jeep Renegade Recall 19V287: Airbag System Software May Turn Off Passive Safety Features

NHTSA campaign 19V287, reported April 10, 2019, 25,004 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2019 Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade vehicles have incorrect software in the occupant restraint controller (ORC) module, the unit that manages airbags and other passive safety features. The software can cause the module to disable certain passive safety features.

If these features are deactivated, the risk of injury increases in the event of a crash. Owners should be aware that the vehicle may not be providing the protection it was designed to give.

Chrysler will notify owners, and authorized dealers will update the ORC module software free of charge. Owners can contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall V42), and can check their VIN for open recalls.
