Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Recall 19V234: Steering Assist Can Be Lost if Hose Separates

NHTSA campaign 19V234, reported March 25, 2019, 65 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2019-2020 Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses built on an FCCC chassis, the clamp on the steering gear return hose may have been installed improperly. The hose can then separate from the steering gear, causing a loss of power steering assist and possibly leaving the bus disabled.

If steering assist is lost while the bus is carrying passengers, occupants would have to leave the vehicle and be transferred to another vehicle, which increases the risk of injury.

The remedy is free. DTNA will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the hose and install power steering hose clamps as needed at no charge. Owners can contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall number FL-813), and should check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
