Freightliner Cascadia Recall 19V137: Gear display may wrongly show Neutral, risking unexpected movement

NHTSA campaign 19V137, reported February 27, 2019, 43 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain trucks with an ICU3S instrument cluster and a DT12 automated manual transmission, the dashboard can keep showing "N" (Neutral) after the transmission has been shifted out of Neutral. The driver may then wrongly believe the truck is in neutral when it is actually in gear.

This mismatch creates a crash risk, because the truck could move unexpectedly if the driver relies on the display. Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling these vehicles under recall number FL-808.

The repair is free. Dealers will reprogram the powertrain controller so the correct gear position shows on the instrument cluster. Contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000 for more information, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
