Tesla Model S Recall 19V002: Passenger Airbag Inflator May Explode, Injuring Occupants

NHTSA campaign 19V002, reported January 7, 2019, 68,673 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator in these vehicles can rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash. Over time, the inflator's propellant can degrade from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes, making an explosion possible.

If the inflator explodes, sharp metal fragments can strike the driver or other occupants, which may cause serious injury or death.

Tesla will replace the passenger frontal airbag modules free of charge at Tesla Service Centers. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 (Tesla recall number SB-19-20-001). Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
