Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner C2 Recall 18V929: Bus Engine Can Shut Off Due to Overloaded Auxiliary Outlet

NHTSA campaign 18V929, reported December 21, 2018, 40 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019-2020 Thomas Built Saf-T-Liner C2 school buses with an optional auxiliary power outlet have a wiring problem. An electrical overload on the auxiliary circuit may cause the ignition fuse to open, shutting down the engine.

An engine shutdown that cannot be restarted increases the risk of a crash, since the driver may lose control of the bus or be unable to move it out of traffic.

The repair is free at an authorized dealer, where the wiring will be modified so the power port no longer affects the ignition circuit. Owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall number FL-804). You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
