Mercedes-Benz C 300 Recall 18V872: Steering Connection May Loosen, Reducing Steering Control

NHTSA campaign 18V872, reported December 7, 2018, 2 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2018 Mercedes-Benz C 300 and E 400 vehicles, the steering coupling may not have been locked correctly at the factory. If it is not properly locked, the mechanical link between the steering wheel and the steering rack can come loose. This reduces your ability to steer and raises the risk of a crash.

If you own one of these vehicles, Mercedes-Benz USA will notify you by mail. Authorized dealers will inspect the steering coupling and lock it correctly if needed. The repair is free of charge. Owners can also contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 and reference recall number 2018120010.

You can check whether your vehicle has any open recalls by entering your VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site or by asking any authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer. Contact a dealer promptly to schedule the inspection.
