Polaris Slingshot Recall 18V809: Backup camera can fail and cause a fire or lost tail light

NHTSA campaign 18V809, reported November 15, 2018, 11,371 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The backup camera on these three-wheeled vehicles can fail internally. The failure can melt the voltage regulator and blow the fuse for that circuit, which stops the taillight from working properly. The vehicles also no longer meet federal lighting safety requirements.

The melted voltage regulator raises the risk of a fire, and a non-working taillight raises the risk of a crash because other drivers may not see the vehicle. Owners should contact Polaris at 1-855-863-2284 about the recall. Polaris will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect and replace the backup camera if needed, at no cost to the owner.

You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls. Until the repair is done, pay attention to whether your taillight is working.

The repair is normally free at an authorized dealer.
