International LT Recall 18V597: Air Brake Leak Can Increase Stopping Distance

NHTSA campaign 18V597, reported September 7, 2018, 2,089 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019 International and IC Bus trucks have spring-actuated parking brakes that may be improperly crimped to the long-stroke service brake chamber. This can cause an air leak in the service brakes, or the spring brake chamber may separate from the service brake section.

An air leak or separation can increase the distance needed to stop the vehicle, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this risk and have their vehicle checked promptly.

Navistar will notify affected owners, and dealers will replace the brake chamber assemblies from the suspected lot free of charge. Owners can also contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 and reference recall number 18512. You can check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website.
