Nissan Sentra Recall 18V551: Ignition Can Slip Into Accessory Mode and Stall Engine

NHTSA campaign 18V551, reported August 21, 2018, 153,047 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some vehicles with a mechanical key ignition can have the ignition switch move from the run position to the accessory position over time. The weight of the key ring, rough road conditions, or another jarring event can cause this, which turns off the engine.

If the engine stalls while driving, the risk of a crash increases. Owners should watch for signs that the key may not be fully in the run position and check whether their vehicle is affected.

Nissan will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the ignition switch and replace it if needed, at no cost to you. Contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 for more information, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
