Ford Edge Recall 18V390: Torque Converter May Fail, Causing Loss of Drive Power

NHTSA campaign 18V390, reported June 11, 2018, 25 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0L gas engine and a six-speed automatic transmission, the torque converter weld studs may have been inadequately welded. If these studs fail, the torque converter can disconnect from the engine flexplate, and the vehicle can lose the ability to move. A sudden loss of motive power raises the risk of a crash.

If you own an affected vehicle, Ford will notify you, and an authorized dealer will replace the torque converter at no cost to you. This recall is an expansion of recall 17V-427. Ford's recall number for this campaign is 17S16 (S2), and the recall began on July 5, 2018.

To confirm whether your vehicle is included, check your VIN for open recalls, or contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
