Pierce Arrow XT Recall 18V050: Fire Truck Pump Valves May Corrode and Lose Water Pressure

NHTSA campaign 18V050, reported January 11, 2018, 123 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2016 Pierce emergency vehicles are equipped with Hale pressure relief valves in their fire pumps. The rings that secure these valves can corrode over time after exposure to water. When a ring fails, the pressure relief valve can open, reducing the water pressure available for firefighting.

Reduced water pressure may hinder firefighting efforts, which can increase the risk of injury. Owners should contact Pierce customer service at 1-888-974-3723 or Hale Products at 1-800-533-3569, referencing Pierce recall number 74B287.

Pierce has notified owners, and authorized dealers will install a remedy kit free of charge. Owners can also check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
