Land Rover Range Rover Recall 18V011: Passenger airbag inflator may explode, sending metal fragments

NHTSA campaign 18V011, reported January 8, 2018, 2,583 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger frontal airbag inflator in these Range Rovers can rupture during a crash that deploys the airbag. The propellant inside can degrade over time from long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes, which may cause the inflator to explode and throw sharp metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants. Such an explosion can cause serious injury or death.

The recall covers certain 2009 and 2010 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles, with the affected states depending on where the vehicle was sold or registered. Land Rover will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will replace the front passenger airbag assembly at no cost. You can contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837, and you should check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.

The recall began June 27, 2018, and Land Rover's recall number is P083. Schedule the free repair with an authorized dealer as soon as possible.
