Toyota 4 Runner Recall 17V763: Grille Overlay Can Detach and Become a Road Hazard

NHTSA campaign 17V763, reported November 29, 2017, 431 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2018 Toyota 4Runner vehicles fitted with an accessory Billet Grille Overlay, installed by Southeast Toyota Distributors or its dealers, may have a U-nut that secures the overlay fracture. If that happens, the overlay can come loose from the vehicle while you are driving.

A detached grille overlay can become a road hazard for you and other drivers, which raises the risk of a crash.

Southeast Toyota Distributors will notify affected owners. Authorized dealers will replace the securing U-nuts with upgraded hardware at no cost to you. The recall is expected to begin January 26, 2018. You can contact Southeast Toyota Distributors customer service at 1-866-405-4226 (recall number SET17C), and you can check your VIN for open recalls.
