Mercedes-Benz Metris Recall 17V651: Front Wheel Bearing May Not Be Seated, Risking Wheel Detachment

NHTSA campaign 17V651, reported October 16, 2017, 109 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain front axle wheel bearings may not have been seated correctly during assembly. If this happens, a front wheel could detach from the vehicle while driving.

Losing a front wheel increases the risk of a crash. Stop driving the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so if you notice unusual noises, vibration, or wheel wobble, and have it inspected right away.

Dealers will inspect the front axle wheel bearing retaining rings and correct their position if needed, free of charge. Owners will be notified by Daimler Vans USA, or you can contact DVUSA customer service at 1-877-762-8267. You can also check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls at NHTSA.gov.
