Mercedes-Benz Metris Recall 17V595: Power Steering May Cut Out, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V595, reported September 22, 2017, 3 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015-2017 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans have electric power steering control units with improperly welded contact pins. The welds can lose contact, which can deactivate the power steering assist.

If the power steering assist shuts off, steering becomes much harder, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this problem and take it seriously.

Dealers will replace the electric power steering rack free of charge. Owners will receive an interim notice by mail, with a second notice when parts become available. You can also contact Daimler customer service at 1-877-762-8267, and you should check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
