Toyota Highlander Recall 17V520: Roof Rails May Loosen and Detach While Driving

NHTSA campaign 17V520, reported August 23, 2017, 1,121 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017 Toyota Highlander and Highlander Hybrid vehicles with accessory roof rail cross bars may have roof rail fasteners that were not torqued properly. Over time, the roof rails can loosen and possibly detach from the vehicle.

A detached roof rail can become a road hazard for other drivers and increases the risk of a crash. If you have accessory roof rail cross bars on your 2017 Highlander, check them for looseness and avoid carrying loads on them until the repair is done.

The repair is free at an authorized dealer: the fasteners will be inspected and properly torqued. Owners will be notified by mail. You can also contact Gulf States Toyota customer service at 1-800-444-1074 (recall number 17R3), and check your VIN for any open recalls.
